Unforgivable
Jon Stewart summarizes this mess up pretty concisely and in somewhat humorous fashion.
I can empathize (somewhat) to various political/ideological/moral views which oppose my opinion - hence my whole "on the fence" spiel. Being a complete idiot (and jerk) about it is something that no one in their right mind should stand.
I can buy, to some extent, the conservative talk for gun rights and abortion, among other things.
Gun rights, I buy that people need protection, and a hand gun is a whole lot more intimidating than a baseball bat if someone breaks into your house; people like hunting, that's cool, too. Owning (semi)automatics, that doesn't vibe with me, but I have a sense for where gun rights activists are coming from.
I'm completely for women's rights, and think forcing a woman to have a baby is just wrong. On the other hand, I'd like to see couples (it's on the guy, too) be responsible, not use abortion as an excuse, though I know sometimes stuff happens; like they say in sex ed, abstinence is the only 100% baby proofer (though from the one episode I've watched of Glee, and according to the Bible, isn't even apparently true). Also, I have a hard time grappling with exactly when an abortion isn't killing another creature. At conception (the whole "masturbation is murder" is a stupid argument, sperm and eggs are designed to not always be used in baby making, that's almost the point; once sperm meets egg, though, that's a different story)? At first heart beat? I'm stumped.
Rush Limbaugh, though, and the other folks calling out Sandra Fluke and completely misconstruing what she argued to Congress, is unbelievable. I think it's clear that people don't even listen, which is most unfortunate. On top of not listening, it's exaggerating with no concern for revisiting comments which could have been misinterpreted (I'll give people the benefit of the doubt, my ears aren't always on their A game). People can have their own (strong) opinions, fine; wrapping yourself in a cocoon and hearing what you want to hear? Unforgivable.
